A depiction of the Holy Supper around a table with Jesus Christ and his apostles, at the time of the celebration of the Eucharist, with no added elements or landscape to distract from the scene. The most distinctive feature of this work is the apostle Judas’s pose looking towards the viewer.
This painting clearly refers to
Sant Sopar (Holy Supper) from the Museum of Lleida, large dimensions 164.5×263 cm, and as Dr Francesc Milalpeix i Vilamala noted in the book Antoni Viladomat i Manalt 1678-1755 – Vida i obra, “although here the figures appear closer together and the brushstrokes, in general, are lighter, as if it were a first draft or a sketch for a larger painting. The apostles have lost the severity and naturalness of other paintings and they have gained a sweetness and mannerism. The luminosity and youthful presentation of the apostles is a precursor of the approach that later painters, such as Bayeu or Maella, will bring to this scene.
