This coin was minted to commemorate the formation, two years prior, of the Second Triumvirate (43 BC), the political alliance between Augustus, Mark Antony and Marcus Aemilius Lepidus to rule the Roman Republic with the highest authority.

On the obverse, bust of Mark Antony surrounded by the legend M(arcus) ANT(onius) IMP(erator) AVG(ustus) IIIVIR R(ei) P(ublicae) C(onstituendae) M(arcus) BARBAT(ius) Q(uinti filius) P(ollio) and a beaded rim. The name Marcus Barbatius Pollio would refer to the magistrate that minted the coin. On the reverse, bust of Julius Caesar Octavius (Augustus) surrounded by the legend CAESAR IMP(erator) PONT(ifex maximus) IIIVIR R(ei) P(ublicae) C(onstituendae) and a beaded rim.
