After a long period of study, he moved to Paris in 1926, where he met avant-garde artists like Picasso, Juan Gris and Pablo Gargallo, who he helped through the gallery-restaurant that he opened in the French capital. He knew and promoted the avant-garde artists, but his own work conveys a schematic realism, with refined brushstrokes and traditional use of colours. The scene is enigmatic and it transcends convention. The inclined position of the table like a still life from an overhead perspective, the presence of some figures and body language of reflection and introversion, leads us to a more metaphysical world of things implied but not said.
