A student of the painters Claudio Lorenzale and Antonio Caba at the School of Fine Arts in Barcelona, at the age of twenty, the Barcelona City Council granted him the Fortuny grant to complete his training in Rome, where he met Joaquín Sorolla and Arcadi Mas i Fontdevila.
In August 1898, the artist travelled through Andalusia with the painter Ramón Casas, with whom he stayed in Granada, an iconic city where Marià Fortuny had lived and worked and which received many artists who were attracted by the light and exoticism of the place.
