A landscape painter with a passion for maritime scenes, he was a student of Antoni Caba and Martí Alsina, and he spent long periods in several countries, including Paraguay, Argentina, Italy and the United States. As a painter, he sold many works, but due to the commercial failure of the grand exhibition at the Barcelona Royal Artistic Circle, he decided to leave in 1903 and he settled in Buenos Aires. He organised an exhibition of Catalan painting, with 74 works from 23 different artists: he contributed 13 of his own pieces, Casas had 16 drawings, Rusiñol 4 paintings, Mir, Roig Soler and Galway 3 oil paintings, and works from Sunyer, Galofré, Codina, Graner, Miralles, Nonell and Urgell were also included. Meifrén surprised the critics by including 5 pastels of Picasso.
