His work is rooted in Catalan realism, but in the last 20 years of his career, it underwent an evolution with the artist’s desire to modernise.
He spent time in Rome and travelled to Paris and to the large international exhibitions on several occasions, giving him a grounding in modernity. Paisaje con gallinas and Paisaje con palomas demonstrate a great quality of light and transparency, created from textures, in which parallels with impressionism and the influence of Japanism are visible, with true compositional freedom, vibrant colours and the predominance animals and plants.
