Manuel Martínez Hugué, known as Manolo Hugué or Manolo. A sculptor between Noucentista classicism and modernity, he also painted and designed jewellery. He was one of the artists represented by the dealer Daniek-Henri Kahnweiler, from 1912 to 1932. At the age of 56 in 1928, on medical advice, he moved to Caldes, his mother’s hometown, having been diagnosed with rheumatoid arthritis. His condition led him to abandon the sculpting chisel which caused him pain, and he took up painting, poetry and drawing.
