As indicated on the legend on the reverse, this coin forms part of a series of old coinage restored by Trajan, recognising in these pieces a historical value that testified both to the history of Rome and to the reasons for its greatness. This particular coin serves as a reminder that the Roman Empire was founded by Julius Caesar, descendant of the goddess Venus, mother of Aeneas and divine ancestor of the twins Romulus and Remus.

On the obverse, bust of Julius Caesar surrounded by the legend C(aius) IVLIVS CAES(ar) IMP(erator) CO(n)S(ul) III and a beaded rim. On the reverse, Venus with military panoply (helmet, spear and shield) leaning on a small column, surrounded by the legend MP(erator) CAES(ar) TRAIAN(us) AVG(ustus) GER(manicus) DAC(icus) P(ater) P(atriae) REST(ituit).

Minted by Trajan, Roman emperor, within the series of restored coins.
