This coin celebrates the conquest over Britannia by Emperor Claudius in the year 43 AD, under the command of the general Aulus Plautius. The annexation of the island not only allowed the completion of Roman rule over all of Western Europe, but also the exploitation of the rich silver mines there.

On the obverse, laureate bust of Claudius, surrounded by the legend TI(berius) CLAVD(ius) CAESAR AVG(ustus) P(ontifex) M(aximus) TR(ibunitia) P(otestate) VI IMP(erator) XI and a very deteriorated beaded rim. On the reverse, triumphal arch erected in the Roman Forum to commemorate the campaign in Britannia, surrounded by a beaded rim. On the architrave, underneath the equestrian statue of the emperor flanked by two military trophies, the inscription DE [victis] BRITANN(is) (“triumph over the Britons”).
